For those of you unfamiliar with the city, please meet in front of Bruce Hall at 6.30pm to be guided on a leisurely walk to the restaurant.

Summer School picnic

Excursion, Saturday 12 December 2009

The Summer School's tradition is to visit the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and NASA's Deep Space Communication Complex so on the Saturday we'll treat ourselves to an excursion out of Canberra. See map.

The bus will depart from Bruce Hall on the ANU campus at 9.30am and return around 6pm. All those going on the excursion as asked to meet at Bruce Hall by 9.30am to catch the excursion bus. It is suggested you bring: Hat, shades, sunblock, water bottle, comfortable shoes, and nibblies for the day. Those staying at Bruce Hall will have food/juice choices available at breakfast to bring along on the excursion. Note: Bruce Hall is located just across Daley Road from the summer school Lecture Theatre.

Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is in the mountains, around a 40-minute scenic drive south of Canberra. We can expect to come across kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and emus which run wild. The more energetic among us can head off on one of the marked walking trails.

During our visit to Tidbinbilla we will also visit the Deep Space Complex, one of three in the world that track NASA's interplanetary missions.

At 1pm we'll have lunch provided to us by the Moon Rock Cafe. This social event is free to participants.
